Eric Pasino

Two paintings on the same canvas.
The upper one is torn open, and what was hidden underneath comes back to the surface.

Eric Pasino was born in Vercelli in 1997 and graduated in painting from the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin in 2021. In 2022 he won first prize at the Premio Mestre di Pittura, and his work entered the collection of Ca' Pesaro, the International Gallery of Modern Art in Venice. In 2023 he was selected for the Premio Cairo and won a studio residency at the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, which has since shown his work in Venice. He has also exhibited in Turin, Milan, Pistoia and Caserta, and at Arte Fiera Bologna and ArtVerona.

His painting is built on layering. Pasino often lays two finished paintings one over the other on the same support, then tears fragments away from the upper layer, so that glimpses of the hidden image resurface through the gaps: two separate worlds forced to coexist, held in an unresolved tension between creation and destruction. Fragmented anatomies, diluted arborescences and organic matter caught in the middle of a metamorphosis recur throughout his work, always stopping one step short of a faithful depiction.

Through these dense, liquid surfaces he pursues the fragile beauty hidden in decay and violence, inviting the viewer to dwell on mortality and human frailty, raising questions rather than offering answers.

“It is precisely his constant experimentation that yields surprising results.”
